Duckie Youth is a creative participatory performance project and a youth theatre that runs every Monday night for 25 weeks in Stoke Newington from 7pm until 9.30.
We want to inspire creativity, resilience and confidence in young queer people.
It aims to mainly serve LGBTQI young people aged between 18 and 26 from the QTIPOC community and from working class backgrounds, although other youngsters are welcome if they are into supporting this focus.
It is run by the triple dream team of youth worker Aakash Bharania and artistic directors Azara Meghie & Lasana Shabazz.
Most theatre projects serve people from middle class backgrounds but this aims to be different and very grass roots.
This 25 week project will be supported by a board of mentors and advisors including Chardine Taylor-Stone, Kayza Rose and Mark Whitelaw.
It is funded by The Big Lottery, Arts Council England, West Hackney Parochial Charity, Mind in the City, Hackney & Waltham Forest, St Paul’s Church West Hackney and Duckie.
